but, i didn't.
right after we got up this morning it started to snow. weather man didn't really think it would happen...and i believed him. but, it was a pleasant little surprise and we are enjoying it immensely.

my youngest has mentioned several times that we should try making snow candy like they did in Little House in the Big Woods...when they boiled real maple sap down to syrup then poured it over plates of cold snow. we decided today was the day to try it. so we sent brave dad outside to collect some snow for us....in the meantime i made maple syrup by using two cups brown sugar, one cup water and a tsp of maple flavoring and boiled it til very thick....maybe about 20 minutes...stirring often.
then we put snow in a bowl and poured the hot syrup on top. it didn't harden very hard...it was chewy, like taffy. but very mapley and good.
in other news, our oldest son turned sixteen this week. yes, i did say sixteen.
and no he doesn't drive yet. we haven't even started. his dad did go get a driving manual for him this week so he can start studying to get his permit.
its a strange thing...i have to look up to see him now when he stands next to me.
i made him stand still for a birthday hug and i could put my head on his chest.
a very strange feeling. my little boy...who used to sit on my lap and talk non stop.
now he's the one i call to reach things out of the top shelf of the cabinet when i can't reach. and he can open jars i can't open. he is such a sweet natured young man.
wow i really like him!

Wow, yeah, I'll bet that is a strange feeling to have your son taller than you! Won't be long, I'll be there! My kids LOVE to make maple sugar snow (as they call it)...in fact, I think there is still some in the freezer and a snowball leftover from the last snow we got a few weeks ago, lol!
